Theodore Earl Butler: one of the most innovative post-impressionist painters of America
Son-in-law of Claude Monet and overshadowed by him, he received quite the strong impulse of impressionist style and technique by Monet. Nevertheless, he stood on his own feet and is not comparable to Blanche Hoschedé-Monet, who indeed just followed her step-father when starting her career as an artist.
Butler was the leading figure in the circle of American artists at Giverny. With numerous exhibitions in the US as well as in France he remains an international renowned artist of the Post-Impressionist era.
